Meet the Dietitian

Madison Rivas RDN, CD, LDN (she/her)

Hi! I’m Madison. You can find me listening to a podcast on a topic related to my current hyperfixation and bumping into furniture as I wonder about my house in Durham, NC. It’s rare that I’m out of the house without my clingy lab-mix, Sophie, and if I am it’s probably to go see some live music (where I will inevitably be reminded that I love music and should listen to it sometimes instead of podcasts).

In 2020, the combined forces of my (yet-to-be-diagnosed) ADHD brain’s difficulty working within a “typical” work environment and my desire to align my personal and professional values led me to opening my private practice.

The path of my career so far reflects the deepening roots of equity and liberation in my nutrition philosophy. While I see the value in working within imperfect systems to enact change, working in private practice allows my work to grow and change in a way that feels good to my congruence-loving, neurodivergent brain.

As a long-time perfectionist and late-diagnosed ADHDer, I know what it feels like be afraid of being really seen.

As someone who got by for a long time with incredible feats of “exceeding everyone’s expectations so well that no one notices the dumpster fire smoldering beneath the surface” and “using anxiety as a stand in for executive function”, I get it. I feel so lucky that my clients trust me enough to open the dumpster lid and be seen. That is what allows us to sort through the *actual trash* that is our society’s obsession with thinness at all costs.

The experiences and identities of my clients matter to me. I want to get to know you, just as much as I want to learn about your difficulties with food and your body. Click here to read more about my commitments to inclusivity in my practice.
